Karachi, September 23, 2012: DHL Express and DHL Global Forwarding Pakistan, part of Deutsche Post DHL, the world's leading postal and logistics group, today marked Global Volunteer Day 2012 by employees taking part in Nature Conservation through renovation and tree plantation at a public park in P.E.C.H.S Society, Karachi , as part of its global drive to give back to local communities and to inculcate a passion for volunteerism among employees. This activity will benefit approximately 500 people.

Sarfaraz Siddiqui, Managing Director, DHL Express Pakistan said, "DHL Express Pakistan strongly believes that corporate social responsibility is the key foundation of sustainable business development. Embracing this philosophy, every year our employees demonstrate their unyielding commitment to helping their local communities on the Global Volunteer Day. This initiative inculcates a strong feeling of oneness amongst the employees and gives them an opportunity to embrace the spirit of volunteerism to help others. This year, we conducted a tree plantation drive across Pakistan under the Go Green umbrella which will not just beautify the country but also contribute towards climate protection and enhance our carbon footprint."

DHL has given the park a new look by planting trees. The park had been neglected by the local administration since a very long time. This initiative will provide recreational facility to the community and will contribute in bringing health and harmony in the community and at the same time will encourage volunteerism among corporate community.

While speaking to the media and the employees of DHL Global Forwarding Pakistan, Mr. Imran Shaikh, said, "Global Volunteer Day is a community-based initiative that supports our vision to invest in the communities where DPDHL operates in. For our employees, we want this to inspire the spirit of volunteerism, increase their engagement with the company and build their pride of association with DPDHL. In time, we hope this will become a platform for other businesses to take on roles to encourage the spirit of volunteerism and community-giving among their staff and as a key corporate initiative."

DHL has not confined its  GoGreen activities to the city of Karachi only. The company plans to expand similar activities in other cities of Pakistan like Lahore, Islamabad, Sialkot, Multan and Faisalabad.

Some of the other key locations where the company plans to undertake these activities are at St Josephs, Karachi, Defence Authority Model High School, Karachi, SOS Village, Karachi, Government Vocational Training Center for Disabled, Karachi, Chambrel Jhal Government Girls and Boys secondary School, Faisalabad and The Educator School, Multan.

Introduced in Asia Pacific in 2008, Volunteer Day has expanded into the Americas, Middle East, Africa and Europe over the years, and continues to build on its success by involving more employees than ever before. In 2011, the initiative was rolled out globally with tremendous success – 60,000 volunteers in over 130 countries and territories participated in more than 600 community programs.

From 6 to 16 September this year, Deutsche Post DHL offices around the world are participating in many diverse community projects in support of various local causes. These community projects deliver to the company's three Corporate Responsibility programs – GoTeach (championing education), GoGreen (protecting the environment) and GoHelp (delivering help after natural disasters).
