Female Ph.D Scholar of KU Wins Two International Awards

A Pakistani Female Ph.D. scholar of the Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi has won two international awards from International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR), USA.



The Spokesman of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) – University of Karachi on Thursday said that ISSCR had awarded the PCMD Ph.D. scholar, Aisha Ishaque the ‘ISSCR Merit Abstract Award’ and ‘ISSCR Travel Award’ in recognition of her outstanding research abstract entitled “Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cells Reverse Ischemia Induced Neuronal Degeneration in Rats,” the work carried out under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Asmat Salim.

It is pertinent to mention here that Aisha Ishaque is also pursuing her Ph.D. under Prof. Asmat Salim. It is also worth mentioning here that the study was presented online in the poster session of the international conference organized by the International Society for Stem Cell Research during June-2022 in San Francisco, CA, USA.


 Around 2,200 members participated in-person and over 1,000 virtually in this hybrid international event, the official said.

Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), and COMSTECH Coordinator General, congratulated the Ph.D. scholar, and said that this was a recognition of young talent of Pakistan, and this is really a pride for ICCBS – University of Karachi to have a pool of such talented young scholars.


Vice Chancellor University of Karachi Prof. Dr. Nasira Khatoon and Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, ICCBS Patron-in-chief and former Federal Minister for Science and Technology, also congratulated the scholar for his achievement.
