Pakistani Mountaineer Sultana Bibi Becomes Third Woman to Conquer K2

Pakistani mountaineer Sultana Bibi has successfully reached the summit of K2, the world's second-highest mountain, becoming the third woman from Pakistan to achieve this remarkable feat. She completed her ascent early Monday morning, joining Samina Baig and Niala Kiani, who scaled the 8,611-meter peak in July 2022. Baig made history as the first Pakistani woman to conquer K2, with Kiani following closely behind on the same day. Sultana's journey began in June, when she departed from Skardu with two teams of climbers.

Sultana's team consisted entirely of six female climbers from Pakistan, and she was led by renowned Pakistani mountaineer Sirbaz Ali. K2, known for its treacherous conditions, is often referred to as the "savage mountain" due to its dangerous death zone, which has a fatality rate of 23 climbers per 100. The unpredictable weather, frequent avalanches, and challenging routes make the ascent perilous, but Sultana's achievement highlights her skill and determination in overcoming these challenges.
