Karachi - Karachi-born rapper, dancer and choreographer Daniya Kanwal was named Spotify’s EQUAL Pakistan Ambassador for Q3 2026 earlier this quarter, spotlighting one of the emerging voices bringing a bold new perspective to Pakistan’s hip hop scene. On September 26, she was featured on Spotify’s iconic Times Square billboard in New York City and has been showcased across multiple curated playlists on the platform.
Daniya’s approach to hip hop is rooted in authenticity. Her music pairs sharp, observant lyricism with South Asian textures, tackling themes spanning identity, womanhood, and the realities of navigating society as a young woman. Her featured EQUAL track, “Mic Check,” appears on her debut seven-track album, Kanwal, released earlier this year. Since the release of the album, Daniya’s momentum on Spotify has grown significantly, with her listeners and streams increasing by more than 3,470% and 6,920%, respectively, over the past year.
Before establishing herself as a rapper, Daniya built her foundations through hip hop dance. Competing under the name B-Girl Destiny, she became Pakistan’s first female national champion of the inaugural international breaking championship held in 2022. Earlier this year, she featured on the HBL PSL 11 anthem “Khelenge Beat Pe” alongside Atif Aslam, the Sabri Sisters and Aima Baig, while also contributing as one of the song’s lyricists. The track is currently her most-streamed song on Spotify, followed by “Bin Ranjha,” “Jihadi Aurat,” and “Meri Jaan.”
Daniya’s journey from competitive breaking to music has established her as a distinctive emerging voice in Pakistan’s hip hop landscape. With 70% of her listeners on Spotify between the ages of 18 and 34, she is captivating younger audiences both in Pakistan and internationally, with the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and United Arab Emirates among the top countries where her music is being streamed.
