Residents of Upper Chitral district have raised alarms over the severe shortage of doctors in government hospitals, where only 8 out of 57 sanctioned medical officer posts are filled. Shockingly, there is not a single lady doctor in any hospital, including the Category-D Hospital in Booni. This dire situation has left patients, particularly women, with no choice but to travel to Lower Chitral's District Headquarters Hospital or seek expensive private care. The lack of primary healthcare services and diagnostic facilities in villages has further burdened the already overstretched Category-D Hospital.
PPP senior leader Amirullah Khan and District Health Officer Dr. Farman Wali have highlighted the crisis, noting the impact on gynecological patients and even postmortem cases involving women. Despite repeated efforts to address the issue, including appeals to authorities, no progress has been made. Residents continue to suffer as the healthcare system in this newly-formed district struggles to meet basic needs.
